Why I Joined Water Polo

A Students View

Well, I really like playing water polo for many different reasons. I started my freshman year which was great, because everybody has those first year at a new school jitters and this really showed me how nice a lot of people are. I joined about a week before school started, actually the day after freshman orientation. This gave me a chance to meet some new people from school, most of them older than me, then when school started I realized I really didn't need to be afraid of anything. I think that since I knew people at school from all different grades that it gave me like a shield, I knew that there was always someone around to help me out when I needed it.

Water polo also gave me great way to lose some weight and get into better shape, and I was really happy about that. Plus, I love the water so it was even better...

Finally, water polo is a great all around sport. It will give you a chance to meet other people, make lifelong friends, and get into better shape. I guess what I am trying to say is that you get a lot more out of a sport (especially this one) than you could ever think. Personally I would like to say if you like to swim, then you should play, because it is just that great....

Dear Incoming Freshmen,

My orientation was only last year. While I was walking through the courtyard and through the halls, I was overwhelmed! I couldn't believe how big everything was. Let me tell you a secret, it isn't really that big. Our faculty just shrinks all the freshman who walk in. It's all an allusion! By the end of the first quarter, you'll be back to normal size again, and the school isn't so big anymore.

Another memory from orientation was a very friendly girl who introduced herself to me while wearing a soaking wet bathing suit and sweats. She asked me my name and if i was interested in water sports. I was planning to run cross-country. My plans changed as soon as I shook her hand. She was a swimmer, and a Water Polo player, and so I wanted to be one too.

Other than choosing the right high school, I definitely chose the right sport. If you like rec-swim at Oceana pool on Saturdays, you should consider playing water polo. If you like sports where depending on your peers is crucial, play water polo. If you are shy and don’t know anyone at your new school, water polo will make you some friends. If you are clumsy and constantly trip over your own toes during P.E., play water polo. You can't trip in the pool! If you are a natural athlete who specializes in water sports and swimming, PLEASE PLAY WATER POLO!!!! It is so much fun!

Good luck with whatever it is that you decide!

Sincerely,

Lily,
